Here’s a cool piece of news for all the horror movie fans out there! Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) is set to write and direct The Mummy, which is a new film that it set up at New Line Cinema.
Cronin shared a tease of the script on social media with the caption: “Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026.”
The filmmaker then told THR: “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”
We’ll that sounds freakin’ awesome! I would love to see a Mummy movie that actually delivers some real horror and terror! That sounds like fun to me, and Cronin in the filmmaker that will be able to deliver that.
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse will co-finance and produce the film which is set for release on April 17, 2026.
The movie will be produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville. Mummy movie in a post to its official Instagram page, writing, “Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026.”
Universal Pictures introduced The Mummy in 1932, and the film starred Boris Karloff as the iconic Imhotep. The Mummy was later adapted into a successful action adventure franchise in the 90s with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
Universal’s most recent Mummy starred Tom Cruise, and it crash and burned at the box office. That movie was awful and it derailed the Dark Universe plans that Universal was looking to build.
I’m excited about this new version of The Mummy, and I can’t wait to see what Cronin delivers! I have a feeling he’s going to make Universal Pictures jealous.
