Rumored Plans for Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Marvel Studios has shifted gears after The Marvels underwhelmed at the box office, but a new rumor suggests Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau are gearing up for major roles in the next Avengers films.

While Captain Marvel soared past $1.1 billion in 2019, thanks in part to its prime placement between Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, its 2023 follow-up struggled to connect with audiences.

Despite continuing Carol’s journey alongside Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, The Marvels pulled in just $206 million worldwide, makin it one of Marvel Studios’ biggest financial misfires.

Still, its post-credits scene set up something big. Monica, stranded in an alternate reality, where she meets a Variant of her mother, this time as Photon, alongside the X-Men’s Beast. That moment could be laying the groundwork for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

According to The Cosmic Circus: “[Captain Marvel is] currently studying how Kamala’s bangle aka the Kree Quantum Bands work, as well as studying the jump point systems to see how she is able to recreate the events from The Marvels that could allow her to bring back Monica from wherever she went. Problem is, if she does that, she’ll be dooming her universe to a terrible fate.”

The report added: “From what I’ve been told, we can expect both of them to return and Monica Rambeau’s role will be a tad more important to the story for this upcoming film, comparable to the role of the Vision in Avengers: Infinity War.”

Vision was the key to Thanos’ quest for the Mind Stone, so could Monica be at the heart of this multiversal crisis?

Meanwhile, concept art for the next Avengers films shows Kamala standing alongside members of the Young Avengers/Champions, a team which includes Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, Wiccan, and Speed.

While Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the lineup or story for Doomsday, there is a good chance we’ll see Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani suiting up for the Marvel adventure.

Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum hinted at Kamala’s future last December, saying, “I love Iman. She’s incredible. I love that character. I will tell you that she’s certainly a big part of the MCU to me.

Ms. Marvel is a really important show to us, and without going into great detail, because I don’t want to spoil anything, she is top of mind. So it’s going to be exciting to see where she pops up next.”

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive in May 2027.
