This week’s retro trailer is for the bonker 1989 film Meet the Hollowheads aka Life of The Edge. This is a surreal sci-fi comedy set in a bizarre, dystopian future where organic machinery and grotesque domestic technology define daily life.
The story follows the Hollowhead family, a middle-class unit navigating the absurdities of their synthetic world. Henry Hollowhead, the patriarch, is vying for a promotion at the slime-powered utility company where he works.
To secure his advancement, he invites his lecherous boss, Mr. Crabneck, over for dinner. What starts as a formal evening quickly descends into chaos as Crabneck’s inappropriate behavior disrupts the family’s peculiar routine and pushes them to the brink.
The film is a satirical take on 1950s-style sitcoms, reimagined through a nightmarish, postmodern lens. The film was directed by Tom Burman, primarily known for his work in special effects.
He created a world filled with pulsating pipes, tentacled appliances, and grotesque food, creating an environment that’s visually unique and unsettling.
The movie star John Glover and Juliette Lewis. Enjoy the trailer below!
