New SPIDER-MAN Rumor Claims to Give Update on Future MCU Return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire

After the return of past Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the Marvel movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans were eager to know if we could anticipate their return. The two beloved actors were so much fun together, with the MCU’s Spider-Man Tom Holland.

They perfectly portrayed their own versions of the character, bringing with them the baggage of their own Peter Parker storylines, and feeling a deep camaraderie to their fellow inter-dimensional selves.

It’s long been rumored that the pair would likely return in the next Avengers films, but we also wondered if we could expect for them to return in another standalone movie. If the rumor is true, it looks like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars could be our final goodbye to the pair.

Industry scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked if Maguire and Garfield could continue to play a role in the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars, or if their stories will end after the ensemble blockbuster. Perez responded, “Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s story will end after Avengers: Secret Wars.”

This would make sense. It was the multiversal storyline that brought them to the MCU, and if these films close that portal, I think it would mean the end of variants in our timeline. I am looking forward to seeing them again, though!

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is set for December 17, 2027.
