A new Marvel rumor hints at the possible return, and preservation, of one of the franchise’s most powerful characters. According to insider reports, Scarlet Witch might escape the fate that awaits many MCU heroes as Marvel preps for a major timeline reset.
As Marvel Studios gears up for Avengers: Doomsday, with Anthony Russo and Joe Russo at the helm, the studio is playing things close to the chest. Official plot details remain under wraps, but Kevin Feige recently opened up a little about what fans can expect from the multiversal chaos to come.
Feige previously said: “Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” He followed up with a comment that got X-Men fans fired up, adding, “‘X-Men’ is where that will happen next.”
Feige also touched on the possibility of recasting legendary characters like Iron Man and Captain America, now that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have stepped away from the MCU.
“I think it’s hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role,” he said. “How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?”
But in the middle of all the talk of reboots and recasts, scooper Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus dropped a tantalizing tidbit that fans of Elizabeth Olsen will definitely want to hear. When asked which characters won’t be recast after Secret Wars, Perez responded, “Scarlet Witch, for starters.”
Now, let’s be clear, this is just a rumor for now. Wanda Maximoff is possibly dead in the current timeline following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Olsen’s return hasn’t been officially announced by Marvel Studios. Still, rumors and reports of her resurrection have been floating around for years, and this update definitely adds fuel to that fire.
Whether this means a permanent return for Olsen or a cameo before the big MCU “reset,” it’s encouraging for fans who want more of Scarlet Witch’s story. With Secret Wars potentially redefining the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, anything is possible.
For now, we wait. But if Perez is right, Scarlet Witch could be one of the few constants in a brave new Marvel world.
Avengers: Doomsday, currently slated for a December 18, 2026 release, will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
