James Gunn Muted Himself While Directing Eagly’s Voice Actor in PEACEMAKER Because He Kept Laughing

Peacemaker has no shortage of memorable performances, but one of the funniest and most surprising comes from a CGI eagle. Chris Smith’s loyal sidekick, Eagly, actually has a voice actor behind him, and that actor is Dee Bradley Baker.

In a recent episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, James Gunn pulled back the curtain on how Eagly comes to life.

“Every time you hear Eagly in season 1 or 2, it is not an actual bird sound. It is a gentleman by the name of Dee Bradley Baker. If you want to see some fun videos, watch videos of him making the bird voice.”

For anyone who doesn’t immediately recognize Baker’s name, you’ve almost certainly heard his work. He’s one of the most versatile voice actors in the industry, with credits on SpongeBob SquarePants, Fairly Odd Parents, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and multiple DC projects.

What really cracks Gunn up is watching Baker in action during recording sessions.

“I have to watch him when I’m directing him in Zoom, and turn off my mic because I cannot stop laughing at how ridiculous he looks making those bird voices. You never think that’s a human being when you hear that bird.”

Even the cast is in awe of how much personality Baker gives Eagly. Jennifer Holland, who plays Harcourt, chimed in, saying:

“It’s incredible. I feel like he does such a great job of really communicating pretty specific thoughts and feelings from Eagly.”

Peacemaker Season 2 is currently streaming on HBO Max, with fans counting down to the final three episodes. Gunn has already confirmed that critics won’t be receiving early screeners in order to keep spoilers locked down.
