Alan Ritchson Wants to Play Batman So Bad, He’d Do It for Free, But James Gunn Says “No”

Alan Ritchson is making it very clear again that he really wants to play Batman. The Reacher star is so eager and to don the cape and cowl that he’s willing to do it pro bono.

Ritchson told Wired: “Would I play Batman? Yes. Would I pay handsomely to be Batman? You wouldn’t even have to pay me to be Batman. I would don the suit. ‘Gotham is mine.’ Look at that. I don’t even have to practice, it just comes out naturally.”

Ritchson is no stranger to superhero roles as fans may remember him as Aquaman in Smallville, and later as Hawk in Titans. He’s got the build, the presence, and judging by his Reacher performance, the no-nonsense attitude to make for a convincing Dark Knight.

But there’s just one problem. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has already shut it down.

Ritchson continued: “What’s amazing to me about this rumor of the Batman or the Batman desire and the zeitgeist is the fact that James Gunn has personally announced publicly on his Twitter or X or whatever, ‘Lol, he’s not playing Batman. He is not playing Batman!’ And this thing will not die.”

So, while Ritchson’s Batman dreams may not be taking flight anytime soon, he’s got plenty to keep him busy. Reacher is keeping him busy and he’s also landed a few other film projects recently.

I would actually love to see Ritchsen in the role of Batman! It’s not hard imaginging him dishing out brutal justice in a cape and cowl.
