Amanda Seyfried Teases JENNIFER’S BODY Sequel: “We’re Working on It”

It looks like Jennifer’s Body might finally be getting the long-awaited sequel fans of the original film have been hoping to see. Amanda Seyfried recently teased that something is in the works, and while she tried to play it cool, her comments are sure to get fans excited.

“I think we’re making another one,” Seyfried said in response to a fan in a TikTok clip (via Bloody Disgusting). Quickly realizing what she’d just implied, she added, “I didn’t confirm it! I said, ‘I think.’” But then, she winked, and said, “We’re working on it!”

Seyfried may not have technically confirmed anything, but it’s the closest thing to official news we’ve gotten.

When Jennifer’s Body hit theaters in 2009, it didn’t exactly blow up at the box office. Written by Diablo Cody and directed by Karyn Kusama, the horror-comedy was met with lukewarm reviews and largely dismissed.

But in the years since, the film has found its audience, earning cult status and a wave of appreciation, especially for its sharp feminist themes and subversive take on the genre.

Cody has never given up on the movie and has been vocal about her desire to revisit the story, previously saying:

“I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe in it as much as I do, and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

Speaking with Nylon, she reflected on the shift in how Jennifer’s Body is now viewed, saying: “I mean, it’s gotten progressively happier for me.

“ At first, I was excited about it obviously, but I was also a little bit salty because I remember thinking, well, where was this audience when the movie came out? It was a critical, commercial failure.”

She added: “I was pretty humiliated, to be perfectly honest with you. It was a rough experience having that movie come out.

“It was rough for me, it was rough for Megan [Fox]… [then] people started suddenly talking about it like it was a good movie, which I had thought all along. At first, I just thought, oh, where was this audience when I needed it, and then I realized they were like… seven.”

If a sequel is being developed, the big question is whether Megan Fox will return. Fox has never really given a strong indication that she’d be up for a follow-up, but I imagine she’d be up for it.

For now, there’s no official word that this movie is happening, but Seyfried’s slip-up suggests something is brewing behind the scenes.
