Movie fans, get ready to enjoy some classic movies on the big screen as Fathom Entertainment just dropped their 2025 Big Screen Classics slate, and it’s a curated mixtape of cinematic heavy hitters. Each one primed for a theater return complete with intros by film critic and historian Leonard Maltin.
The lineup is a greatest hits collection that spans generations and genres:
-
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – June 15 & 18
-
Clueless (30th Anniversary) – June 29 & 30
-
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (50th Anniversary) – July 13 & 16
-
Sunset Boulevard (75th Anniversary) – August 3 & 4
-
The Sound of Music (60th Anniversary) – September 13, 14 & 17
-
Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago – Ultimate Director’s Cut – November 5 & 9
This follows January’s knockout 40th anniversary screening of The Goonies, which packed theaters and reminded audiences that watching a classic on the big screen still hits different.
And if it feels like you’re seeing more vintage titles on marquees lately, you’re not imagining things. Repertory screenings have become a fixture in theaters since the pandemic shifted audience habits. Fathom has leaned hard into that shift, and it’s paying off for them.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Fathom CEO Ray Nutt said: “Nearly 60%” of the company’s recent growth comes from repertory content. He called it a “bedrock element of our content offerings,” emphasizing how essential these titles have become to Fathom’s expanding identity.
This marks the third year Leonard Maltin will lend his voice and expertise to the series, offering context, history, and a little movie magic before each showing.
This is a chance for movie lovers to revisit these on the big screen, in the dark, with a crowd. It’s an opportunity for me to experience cinematic icons like Sunset Boulevard or One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for the first time.
Fathom is co-owned by AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, is best known for event cinema like The Met: Live in HD and The Chosen, but has been stepping into longer theatrical runs and original releases, signaling a broader evolution of the brand.
