Jon Hamm isn’t giving up on his dream of suiting up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite years of near-misses and hopeful conversations, the Mad Men star is still throwing his hat into the superhero ring.
In a recent chat with Screen Rant, Hamm was asked again about the MCU and whether anything was finally moving forward. His response was candid, and a little exasperated:
“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. Nobody knows what’s going on in the secret world of that company.”
But that doesn’t mean he’s given up hope.
“I do know that I have a lot of… I have a lot of appreciation for that world, so hopefully that’s reciprocated. Why not me?”
It’s a fair question. Hamm has the gravitas, the charisma, and the fandom credentials. He’s made it clear over the years that he’s a genuine comic book fan, and wants in on the action.
Fans haven’t been quiet about it either as there’s long been buzz about him being a perfect fit for characters like Mister Sinister, one of the villains in the X-Men world.
This isn’t a recent development as Hamm’s been actively pursuing Marvel for a while. Last summer, he siad:
“I’ve pitched myself for a couple parts of the Marvel universe, I don’t want to say what exactly, but it was a part of a comic book that I really liked. So maybe it’ll work out.”
The casting wheels at Marvel are famously slow and incredibly secretive, which probably hasn’t helped Hamm’s campaign. But what makes it even more frustrating for fans is knowing how close he once was.
Back in 2022, Hamm shared that he was originally supposed to appear in the post-credits scene of The New Mutants as Mister Sinister, but it never happened.
“I never shot anything. I remember having a conversation with people. So I was excited to be considered. But these conversations happen and then life intervenes.”
Hamm is clearly not giving up on his dream, and with Marvel entering a new era, introducing fresh faces and shaking up its roster, maybe it’s time they gave Hamm a shot.
Honestly, why not him?
