It’s been almost a decade since the Marvel Netflix series Luke Cage debuted. It was among the Marvel shows on the streamer which were in the same universe, and they told some really fantastic stories and featured great actors.
Luke Cage lasted two seasons, and it left us on a cliffhanger that led us to believe we would see him return, but things got shaken up and those shows wrapped up without the finality we anticipated.
Fans are still talking about the show, especially with the return of Daredevil in the new series Daredevil: Born Again, and the confirmation that Luke Cage and the rest of the Defenders are all MCU canon.
We haven’t had a lot of details revealed to us since the show ended, but series showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker has dropped a few tidbits.
Last year, Coker revealed that the titles of the episodes in season 3 of the show would have been inspired by Public Enemy songs, and they suggested an intense exploration of power, public perception, and moral conflict.
They were set to be: “Public Enemy #1,” “Don’t Believe The Hype,” “Louder Than A Bomb,” “Burn Hollywood Burn,” “You’re Gonna Get Yours,” “Can’t Truss It,” “Brothers Gonna…,” “Can’t Do Nuttin For Ya Man,” “Shut Em Down,” “Show Em Whatchu Got,” “Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos,” “Welcome To The Terrordome,” and “Rebel Without A Pause.”
This weekend, he expanded on that info while responding to fan questions about the series’ unresolved ending, revealing that the creative team had mapped out an ambitious continuation following Luke Cage’s transformation into “the new Godfather of Harlem.” Coker tweeted, “Six episodes written, 8 outlined, 13 projected….and nope, I ain’t saying s—.”
This aligns with the previous info, as he had revealed 13 song titles. It’s really too bad that we will never see what could have happened in that third season.
Luke Cage was a well done series, and Mike Colter was great in the title role. Maybe he will return to the MCU one day as well.
